A series of releases from the Legislature. 'Senate Committee Restores Rehab Cut' Speaker A.B. Won Pat reports that the Senate Subcommittee on Appropriations decided on approving the full amount requested from the Guam Rehabilitation Act, $11,464,000 for fiscal year 1964 and $10,000,000 for fiscal year 1965. - REPORT FROM WASHINGTON - 'Weekly Report of Washington Office of Seventh Guam Legislature for Week Ending March 27, 1964' Two major items from the legislature were the HR 10433, Economic Opportunity Act of 1964 and HR 9751, Housing and Community Development Act of 1964. 'Economic Opportunity Act of 1964 (H.R. 10443)' is a bill that proposes to eliminate poverty' 'Youth Programs' proposes programs for male youths of 16 to 21 years of age - these participants education and vocational training through collaborations with Federal, state, or local agencies, including private organizations for these services. 'Community Action Programs' this program would mobilize and utilize public and private resources to combat poverty. ' Rural Poverty' provides for grants up to $1,500 to low-income rural families. 'Employment Investment Incentives' this program would permit the making or guaranteeing of 25-year loans that would produce stable employment for individuals not already employed. 'Housing and Community Development Act (H.R. 9751)' this program aims to combat poverty by providing adequate living accommodations for families how are low or moderate income, who have or are elderly, or were subjected due to special problems of displacement by government action. 'Relocation Payments to Displaced Persons and Businesses' provides grants of up $3,000 for moving expenses of a small business and $200 for a family - additional grants are provided for pension over 62 years of age. 'Rehabilitation Assistance to Elderly Homeowners in Urban Renewal Areas' provides for loans to those over the age of 62 to rehabilitate homes to meet standards of urban renewal areas. 'Mortgage Insurance Programs' this bill aims to assist in improving overall residential areas and facets. 'Housing for Low-Incoming Families' provides financial assistance for housing for low-income families who cannot pay for decent, safe and or sanitary dwellings. 'Rural Housing Loans and Grants' makes grants and low interest insured mortgages for the purpose of improving below standard rural homes. 'Agriculture Services-HR 3896' officially reduces the amount of Department of Agriculture workers from 5 to r. '$200 Customs Exemption' this proposed bill may become void due to the decreasing amount of time left in the legislature. 'Appropriations' Senator Bible has taken interest in this bill and its sub-bills and has asked for more information. 'Land Condemnation' Speaker A.B. Won Pat is now in possession of a letter from Senator Jackson to the Secretary of the Navy in which the island may receive help in filling the land condemnation cases routes 1, 4, 8. '
