Description
Releases from the Air Force Community. - Lt. General Archie J. Old, Jr., commander of the 15th Air Force, arrived on the island with his staff and was met by General Harold W. Ohlke, 3rd Air Division Commander. The 15th Air Force recently started alert operations at Andersen AFB with the B-52 Bomber, in conjunction with the 22nd Bomb Wing from March AFB, California, and the 95th Bong Wing of Biggs AFB, to display the might of the Strategic Air Command in the Pacific. General Old personally handled the controls of the KC-135 jet tanker on the flight to Guam – the KC-135 is the partner of the B-52 in SAC’s aircraft retaliatory team. General Old’s inspection visit of the 15th Air Force staff extends stops at Kadena AB, Okinawa and Yokota AB, Japan, before heading back to HQ at March AFB.
