An article that covers the ‘Battle of the Bands.’ The Battle of the Bands took place last Friday, at the Hong Kong Gardens; musical competition that lasted four hours and spanned about an audience of approximately 850 people, with numerous bands competing to be the best. The bands include: Glowlites (Second; Jimmy Singer Joaquin Flores; Joaquin Reyes, guitar bass; Jimmy Flores and Alfred Camacho, rhythm guitarists); Continentals (Third; Best Instrumentalist, guitar, Joe Salas; ); Velotones (Honorable Mention; ranked best for showmanship, dress, and popularity; Favorite Singer, Joaquin Sablan; Best Instrumentalist, drummer, Ricky James; Best Instrumentalist, guitar, Roy Camelo; David Borja, guitar bass); Hytones (Honorable Mention; Best Instrumentalists, drummer, Roland Franquez; Best Instrumentalist, saxophone, Joe Manibusan); Hylites (Honorable Mention); and the Twilights (First; Best Instrumentalist, saxophone, Bill Crisostomo; Roland Concepcion and Joseph Sablan, organ). Judging the contest were James Toal, George Washington High School music director, Mrs. Marian H. Chapman, College of Guam, John D. Forbes, Father Duenas Memorial School, Lt. Don Bennett, USAF Bandleader. The first place trophy was donated by Pacific Wholesalers Inc., which was sponsored by the Lancers Club. Others trophies were donated by Frank Cruz, C.Q. Pang, William Bains-Jordan. Tony Palomo presented the winners their trophies. The Lancer Club officers include: Oscar Santos, Joe Okada, Tommy Perez, and Joe Camacho. The board of directors are: Tommy Okada, Albert Okada, Peter Martinez, Greg Perez, Frankie Crisostomo, and Tony Perez
