Description

"Xanadu is given a colorful facelift in the 1984 edition. With a greater emphasis on art and graphic design, each page is individually arranged to heighten the experience of reading the literary publication, as well as adding to the theme of the entire magazine. This theme is defined at the very end of Xanadu 1984 by Mary Ann Braden (Art Editor for Xanadu 1984) as “a continuum.” The publication also identifies the word continuum to mean “a continuous whole, quantity, or series; thing whose parts cannot be separated…”

Notable pieces within Xanadu 1984 are “Interview with the UOG President” (Mary Ann Braden), “Goodbye Ninoy” (Gloria M.D. Ong), “Reaching the Moon from Fefan: A Trukese myth” (Silander Inek), and Unvanquished (Judith P. Guthertz).

There is a brief excerpt of Chris Perez Howard’s novel, Mariquita, as well as the thought process behind creating the Juan Malimanga comic strip by Clotilde C. Gould.

At the end of Xanadu 1984, there is a page of remembrance for Eugene Nauta Ramsey. "
