Description
Cover Page for this week’s issue, September 26th, 1964. Bunzo Minagawa – Straggler returns to Guam. Bunzo Minagawa, a Japanese straggler captured in 1960 after he and Musashi Ito had spent 16 years hiding in Guam’s jungles as World War II hold-outs revisits Talofofo Bay. Near this point is a rock where he once slept for three weeks, planning how he would steal a boat which was in the bay and so he could sail to Japan – a plan that was never attempted because of the heavy traffic on the highway separating him from the water. Minagawa has returned to Guam to aid in the search for two more Japanese stragglers allegedly spotted several weeks ago at NCS. Photograph is by Guam Times Weekly staff reporter, Byron Baker
