Description
NATIVE WOMEN sit on the floor as an interpreter for the representative of the District Administrator, Marshall Islands, answers a question asked by one of the women. They were receiving their final briefing on the Pacific Island of Ebeye, just before being repatriated to the island of Rongelap. The island was evacuated in march 1954, when an impossible-to-predict shift of wind carried radioactivity from Bikini into the Northern Marshalls. The island has since been declared safe for habitation.
